  • I was out in the yard working yesterday when one of our hens laid an egg.  If you are city folks, you probably wonder how I know that she laid her egg.  Hens announce their great achievement with much clucking and squawking.  The other girls commend her and voice loud congratulations until the whole flock is commenting on the new egg.  OK, so what possible survival benefit could there be from such noise?  I only have eight hens, but I cannot imagine how boisterous and joyful it would be with a hundred or more.

I’ll bet commercial chickens aren’t so joyful.  Do you think they get depressed?  Obviously, they enjoy discussing their lives.  Mine do, at least.

  • Hmm, my son expressed an interest in raising chickens, I suggested I’d rather not because he goes off to collge in a few months and who would be stuck. Sigh.

  • Happy eggs come from happy chickens. I bet they even taste better~ Hope things are going well as school winds down for you. We had year end celebrations in preschool & Gracie’s language program. She’s growing up all too fast. I never understood that until I had one of my own. Great day to you~  Thanks for your well wishes on my recent trip back to Deutschland – wonderful time, indeed!

  • Are you done with your school year yet?  I hope that in  fall you are blessed with as nice a class as you had this term.

Chickens??  I have a thing about them.  When I was little  (kindergarten thru 2nd grade) a neighbor had some bantams, and when I walked home from school I had to pass the field he often let them out in.  They would always chase me and peck at my legs.  They scared me to death!  Ever since then, I haven’t met a chicken I’ve liked—-not a live one, anyway!  lol

I had mentioned San Marcos to our kids when they were in Corpus Christi, but when they left there for Iowa they went through Arkansas instead of back up through Texas and OK.  They like CC, so maybe next winter they will go there again—-and maybe through San Marcos on their way.  I looked SM up online, and it looks like such a nice area.

  • Sounds familiar! I love my hens and their chicks…

  • I love love love chicken stories (c: I’m not sure why, but I always love me a good chicken story!!!
